Torqeedo Cruise 4.0R on The Gadget Show

NORFOLK, ENGLAND, August 26, 2010 /Boating PR News/ -- Ortis and Jason were competing against one another during a boat build and race. Following Ortis' defeat against Suzi in a previous challenge when she used the Ultralight 402, Ortis made sure he would have an electric outboard from the German company Torqeedo.
Ortis was adventurous with his boat build and went for a catamaran that was solar powered. Jason went for something a little more streamlined that can only be described as something like the bat mobile. Although Jason won the challenge Ortis had a very good boat to compete with. (There was 5 meters between them!)
Covered in this episode was the Torqeedo Cruise 4.0R, Torqeedo's most powerful electric outboard offering upto 10 HP.
Ortis had built a boat with a lot of extra weight compared to Jason's boat - there were two very large solar panels that took two people to carry when moving!
When Ortis got his boat into the water he was very impressed and said "Look at the front coming up eh! That's speed man!" when he pushed the throttle forward.
The Torqeedo Cruise 4.0R is capable of 10 HP meaning it can push a boat weighing 2,600 Kg at 6.3 knots quite comfortably. It's a very durable motor with a 51% efficiency which is exceptional.
While The Gadget Show reported the best price as being GBP2549 but we know this price can be beaten.
Although Ortis didn't win, the Torqeedo proved to be very good for the boat he was using. It was fast, durable and adapted well to the situation.
With the remote throttle it made it easy to increase the speed and steer the boat as required.
